It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a side that has accomplished all there is.

That it took as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

In the end, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her bow and seven global championships have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Some might respond with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it has been a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single came off the opening delivery and after that the right-hander was underway.

"The possibility to play and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we believe we can do it."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this championship need to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she later said she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.
